NVIDIA is trying to redefine the debate around its DLSS 5 neural-rendering filter as a debate about authorship. Players are not convinced.

A "preservation" frame lets NVIDIA keep the engine running on a feature that, by any honest accounting, is closer to a generative pass than a sharpening filter. NVIDIA's DLSS line has, until now, sold itself as reconstruction: anti-aliasing, frame generation, denoising. DLSS 5 is the first product in the family that changes the pixels themselves, not just how often they arrive.
Why players are calling it AI-slop

Until a major studio ships the feature on by default and walks reviewers through, frame by frame, what the model adds and what the model subtracts, the label "AI-slop" will keep travelling faster than the rebuttal. The next test is not a press release. It is shipping software that a working artist signs off on in public.
