ISRO's quiet crisis

Drones, TB, and a 100-fold cost collapse
The third story is the most quietly radical. The Indian Express reported that a drone-based diagnostic pipeline has cut tuberculosis diagnosis time from roughly ten days to hours, and reduced the per-test cost from Rs 9,451 to Rs 91, a reduction of more than two orders of magnitude. India runs the world's largest TB caseload and one of its most bureaucratic diagnostic networks. Samples travel from rural collection points to district or state labs, often by road, often with cold-chain complications, often with the patient long since lost to follow-up by the time the result returns. The drone pipeline short-circuits the geography. The cost collapse is not principally a function of the drone itself; it is a function of collapsing the logistics chain the sample had to traverse.
The nuance the wire does not resolve is scale. A pilot that works in one district does not automatically scale to a country with 700 districts, multiple terrains, and a regulatory framework that has historically treated drones as military hardware.
