At 16:06 UTC on 11 July 2026, a low-resolution Sentinel-2 frame geolocated to 31.8257274, 36.7845889 began circulating on the conflict-monitoring channel Wafriqat. The image showed two scorched rectangles on a flight line at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, roughly 35 kilometres east of Amman. By 16:57 UTC, four separate open-source-intelligence channels had republished the same coordinates with the same reading: Iranian ballistic missiles had hit at least two newly built aircraft hangars at the base.
If the imagery holds up under independent review, this is the first Iranian strike on a US position inside the Hashemite Kingdom, and it lands at a moment when Washington's regional posture depends on Jordanian territory more visibly than it has in years. The base is the staging ground for US air operations in Syria and Iraq and a forward node for the surveillance-and-strike complex aimed at Iran's own missile and drone programmes. Striking it changes the geometry of a confrontation that, until now, has mostly been fought in third countries by proxy.
What the satellites actually show
The Sentinel-2 product is a freely available European Space Agency platform that revisits any point on Earth every five days at 10-metre resolution. Two things make this frame useful despite the blur. The signal Tehran appears to want to send

The second, more cautious reading, treats the timing as suspicious. Iran's missile arsenal has not been used against a US position in Jordan before. The strike falls during a period of indirect US-Iran talks mediated by Oman and Qatar, and in the middle of a broader regional escalation tied to the war in Gaza and the fighting on the Lebanon border. A third reading, voiced quietly by analysts who have tracked Iranian operations for years, warns that the imagery may also be a manipulated product, a deepfake satellite frame, or a real strike on a different target dressed up as Muwaffaq Salti for psychological effect.
