The point of the 16 June release was not when games begin. It was that FIFA can now tell three governments, eleven host cities and dozens of broadcast partners exactly when a match starts, down to the minute, and that those governments and cities discovered, in the same breath, how much of the calendar they had already ceded. The tournament footprint includes sixteen venues across the United States, Mexico and Canada, with the final scheduled for 19 July at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Local kick-off times published by FIFA in the run-up to the tournament have been set to serve broadcast windows in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific, and the federation has done so without obvious pushback from the venues that pay the infrastructure bills.

A three-country fixture list, run from Zurich

The 2026 tournament is the first World Cup organised across three sovereign hosts, and the operational signature is visible in every matchday. By 18 June, matches were being staged on the same day in Philadelphia and Mexico City, with kick-offs staggered at noon, 3pm and 6pm local eastern times to feed evening prime time in London and morning audiences in Sydney. Host cities that want matches at family-friendly times will discover, as the 2026 venues have, that family-friendly is whatever Zurich says it is. Watch 19 July, MetLife Stadium, 3:00pm local kick-off. By then the question will not be who wins. It will be how many federations, in 2030 and 2034, will still believe they are hosting anything at all.
